Photosynthesis Lab
Purpose: Effect of intensity and wavelength of light on photosynthesis(measure by the amount of starch production).
Hypothesis: I believe that the covered leaves will have less photosynthesis then the covered leaves. I think the covered ones will have a lesser amount because it is being covered, therefore different light rays are absorbed.THe cellophane leaves will barley be getting any sunlight because it will be reflecting part of the rays. The Black covered leaves will get little to no sun light because they will be reflecting all rays.

Material List:
- 5 test tubes
- 400-mL beaker
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- 5 peri dishes
- Tape- Scotch and Masking
- Dropper
- Blue Cellophane
- Black Paper
- Black Wx Pencil
- Spatula
- Iodine Solution
- Hot E+OH
- Paper Towels
- Water
- Coleus Plant-Green
- Coleus Plant- Wizard Mix: Red
Procedure:
1. Cover Three leaves or more with black paper, and another three or more leaves with blue Cellophane.(You may use other colors of cellophane.) Then allow that to sit for 24 hours.
2. After the 24 hours remove the coverings on the leaves, and start to remove the leaves from the plant. Then in different test tubes separate the leaves from different plants, color, and ones that were uncovered. Now take them to your teacher where she will use hot Ethanol to remove the chlorophyll. Then rinse the leaves, and then test for starch by using iodine in separate petri dishes. Finally record results in a table.

Data Analysis:
The most interesting part of this lab was seeing how plants Chlorophyll could just come off like it did when we used the Ethanol. I really enjoyed seeing how the blue cellophane changed the amount of photosynthesis, same with the black paper. This lab was really fascinating and i love learning new tools, and cool experiments that really make you think. I really like learning about Chlorophyll A and Chlorophyll B, and how they absorb, and look different from eachother. I still wonder how exactly they differ in the fall, how the leaf coloring might appear.
In the future, I believe that we coud learn alot more by using different types of plants. Since we only used 2 plamts, im interested in seeing how different plants would be affected. Although this would be a great idea, we may not have the time to test all the different plants, but I think even adding one different plant, may be educational.
In this lab I worked with Rosalie Urban. Rosalie and I were able to work very efficently, along with Dalton and Logan who where also in our group. We all woked on the lab in a way that really helped us get done fast and understand the lab as we were doing it. I had a great time working with all of them and I look forward to working with them again. If we had any problems we were able to work though them and get the job done. I really enjoyed working with them. I believe they did a great job with effort and having great attitudes. Also, I love how we work in groups, it really helps to grasp what is happening and have a fun time, at the same time.
