Reflection:
During this project I enjoyed getting to work with new people, and the task/challenge we had at hand. I feel that my group communicated and worked well together. The video taping was difficult for me, but with the help of others in my group we were able to accomplish the task. In this project I was able to learn many new things. Two of those being how to edit videos and different things about horses. my group could of collaborated and made it a better presentation, and I look forward to improving on those areas for my next project. To improve in these areas a better plan of our ideas should be made and more creative thoughts should be put into the elements of our video.
Concepts/Mathematics:
In order to find the acceleration, momentum, force, and work of the horse we had to measure out the turn and time it. We also had to find the weight of the horse, which was 950 lb. (500kg.)
Acceleration is the rate in which velocity changes. The formula for acceleration is ACCELERATION= CHANGE IN VELOCITY/CHANGE IN TIME. The acceleration of the horse for the full turn is 4.4 m/s.
Momentum is the force or strength that something has while in motion. The formula for momentum is MOMENTUM= MASS x VELOCITY. The momentum of the horse is 2,585 kgm/s.
Force is the power exerted on an object or person. The formula for force is FORCE=MASS x ACCELERATION DUE TO GRAVITY. The force of the horse is 2,225 N.
Work is the energy, or force applied ,or transferred from one object to another. The formula for work is WORK= FORCE x DISTANCE. The work of the horse overall was 35,600 J.
How It Was Made:
To start off our project we made a story board, which is a way of mapping out our project. Then we had to make a script, which we had to revise several times. Next, we went to a horse ranch and video taped Ingrid riding her horse around the barrel. We also had to time and measure out the turn. The next day at school we interviewed Ingrid, and recorded the math and improvements to make. After that all that was left was to edit it and put it together. In the end we were left with our end product, and it was all in all a great video.
